Biography
He was born in the Asturias region in Northern Spain. When he was 9 years old he suffered a severe fracture to his femur which almost jeopardized his career, but due to a non-invasive approach he was able to make a full recovery. He started off his career at Sporting de Gijón, his local club and made his first-team debut in the 2000. Real Zaragoza bought him in the summer of 2003, scoring 17 times in his first season. Villa led Zaragoza to a Copa del Rey victory netting an important goal against Real Madrid. After starting in his first international, Valencia bought him for £8.2 million in 2005. David bagged his 150th career league goal against his former club Sporting Gijon.
Villa scored a hat-trick on his 100th appearance for Valencia. In 2007-2008 he won his first trophy(Copa del Rey) with Valencia, beating FC Barcelona in the semi-finals and then 3-1 v Getafe CF in the final. David has also recorded one of the fastest hat-tricks, scoring it within 5 minutes against Athletic Bilbao on the 23 April 2006.
He debuted for the Spanish national team in 2005 versus Almeria. He finished joint top goal scorer for Spain along with Fernando Torres in World Cup 2006 with three goals.
David has been a prolific scorer for both club and country. In the Euro 2008, he scored the only hat-trick of the tournament against Russia. Although absent from the final Villa ended as the top-scorer of the tournament, winning the golden boot and a place in the Euro 2008 Team of the Tournament.
Villa married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia, in 2003. Patricia was also a football player in her teen years. They have two daughters Zaida and Olaya.
