Captain Ryan Giggs led from the front, scoring two penalties, helping lift United onto the top of the Premier League table and also two points clear of Chelsea. Talismanic striker Rooney, missed the game due to a groin injury, however this did not deter the team from giving the game their all.

Michael Essien has been out with a long-term knee injury. The Ghana and Chelsea player said he was prepared to miss the upcoming World Cup. Essien has been on the sidelines since the finals of the African Nations Cup held in January this year, now his recovery has been stalled with a few complications.
