AFC U-16 qualifiers

India recorded another loss in the AFC under-16 qualifiers, this time it was to hosts UAE.

The Indians started off well, attacking from the beginning and almost scored in the third minute. Followed by another miss two  minutes later when Shashank’s powerful shot went sailing over the bar. However, they finally took the lead in the 10th minute.

UAE equalized in the eighteenth minute through Johar Ahmed and a few minutes later took the lead with Saeed Ali Rawahi heading the ball in. The hosts then added another from a penalty.

India pulled up their socks and appeared more concentrated in the second-half. Brandon Fernandes converted a penalty which was awarded when Lalnunmawia was tackled down in the box, bringing the deficit down to two goals. But then India conceded a goal, giving UAE a dominating 5 – 2 lead.

Both teams played attacking football from then on, India scored in 80th minute as substitute Lanba Luwang headed the ball into the net. Nevertheless, the scoreline was to change once again with UAE adding another to their tally and securing a massive 6 -3 victory.
