Liverpool have signed Joe Cole on a four-year deal – subject to a medical. The 28-year-old England midfielder left Stamford Bridge in June after failing to agree a new contract with the Premier League champions. Andres Iniesta sealed the first World Cup win for Spain in extra time. It wasn’t a high skilled, free flowing match. The referee had to stop the game on more than a few occasions and had to dish out cards, including a red card to Johnny Heitinga after picking up a second yellow card.
Germany win against Uruguay to be placed third in the World Cup. Midfielder Sami Khedira headed in a corner eight minutes before end of normal time to secure the win.
